Mercury in the Great Lakes Basin
Mercury is a toxic element whose unique properties make it one of the most useful and pervasive substances, and as such, concentrations in places around the world have risen to levels of concern. The Great Lakes is one such place. There have been intensive efforts by many government and international bodies to reduce the use and emission of mercury to the environment.
Estimating Air Pollution Emissions From Fossil Fuel Use in the Electricity Sector in Mexico
In this document, there are estimated emissions from power generation in Mexico, based on fuel consumption, as well as emission factors for specific power generation plants, for the years 2001 and 2002.
Closing the Pathways of Aquatic Invasive Species Across North America
This paper provides an overview of the status and trends of invasive alien species and their pathways of invasion into the marine and freshwater systems of North America.
Identifying Environmentally Preferable Uses for Biomass Resources
This Phase 1 report builds on past studies to summarize the size of Canada’s major biomass resources (forestry, agricultural, and municipal residues, landfill gas and energy crops) and for each sector identifies a number of possibilities and technologies that could be applied to this resource for energy and other potential commercial purposes.

Land Cover in a Managed Forest Ecosystem
Managed forest Écosystèmes—agroforestry systems in which crops such as coffee and bananas are planted side-by-side with woody perennials—are being touted as a means of safeguarding forests along with the ecological services they provide. Yet we know little about the determinants of land cover in such systems, information needed to design effective forest conservation policies. This paper presents a first-ever spatial regression analysis of land cover in a managed forest ecosystem—a shade coffee region of coastal Mexico.
