When I planted milkweed many years ago, I had no idea that planting it would change how I view life. Of course, the monarchs came and I was amazed. Every summer since, the butterflies fly in, reproduce and are gone by late September, and every summer I welcome them with open arms! They have taught me much about nature, life and death, and have reminded me about the fragile planet that we live on. I quietly celebrate whenever I find eggs, caterpillars and chrysalis, and I am saddened if they die and don’t make it to the adult butterfly stage. I try to gather data each day as accurately as I can and submit it to Mission Monarch every day during their visit. I feel passionate about trying to protect and help these beautiful insects, and I truly hope I make a tiny difference in the wake up such a momentous task.
