Sumidero Canyon II: Factual Record

Description

On 29 November 2011, the Comité Pro-Mejoras de la Ribera Cahuaré (the” Submitter”) filed a submission with the Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) in accordance with Article 14(1) of the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation. The Submitter asserts that Mexico is failing to effectively enforce its environmental law in connection with the operation of a rock quarry that is allegedly damaging Sumidero Canyon National Park (SCNP, “Sumidero Canyon” or the “Park”) in Chiapas, Mexico. On 10 June 2014, in Resolution 14-05, the Council unanimously instructed the CEC Secretariat to prepare a factual record for submission SEM-11-002 (see paragraphs 2-6).
