Throughout North America, coastal flood risks are escalating due to land-use changes, ecosystem loss or transformation, population growth in coastal zones, sea-level rise, changes in the frequency and severity of storms and ageing flood-protection infrastructure. Tides and storm-driven flooding are increasingly damaging homes and infrastructure, and generally disrupting coastal communities and their economies.
