Project

Enhancing North American Enforcement of the IMO Maritime Fuel Sulfur Limits

Status: Completed
Operational Plan: 2015 - 2016

Maritime transport is a global industry, and North America has extensive maritime trade flows, both internally and with the rest of the world. The goal of this project is to enhance North American capacity to assess compliance with, and enforce as appropriate, the International Maritime Organization’s fuel sulfur standards, particularly those applicable in Emission Control Areas (ECAs). The Parties are working through the CEC to help Mexico formally establish an ECA in Mexican waters.
