In the face of an escalating environmental crisis and increasing demand for natural resources, enabling conditions for making sustainable life choices has become imperative for the preservation of our planet and the well-being of North American communities. As the world is stretched thin for resources and the environmental challenges intensify, our daily choices increasingly determine our planet’s future. Adopting sustainable practices, such as reducing waste, conserving energy and choosing environmentally responsible products, can significantly mitigate these adverse impacts.
Our ability to make sustainable life choices is shaped by various drivers, including economic factors, social influences and individual values. This area of the CEC’s work focuses on the drivers of individual and collective life and consumption choices. It recognizes the importance of engaging people and communities considering small and medium-scale efforts within broader holistic strategies. The objective is to better understand the systemic and contextual factors that shape our choices and to provide individuals with the knowledge, tools and support they need to make more sustainable decisions. This work touches on issues like education, awareness, behavioral change, entrepreneurship and the social drivers behind our choices.
