Greening Production and Economic Activities
As we face the growing consequences of environmental degradation and natural resource depletion, it becomes increasingly evident that our current economic practices are unsustainable. Over-reliance on fossil fuels, the depletion of natural resources and excessive waste generation are accelerating the destruction of our ecosystems. We need to find better ways to mitigate the harmful effects of production processes and foster a healthier, more resilient environment.
This area of the CEC’s work focuses on economic production and activities—how we produce and trade goods and services—to identify opportunities to reduce environmental impacts and promote more sustainable alternatives. Cooperative work will explore core activities within the production sectors of the economy, including:
- Resource extraction (agriculture/food, forestry, fisheries, mining, etc.)
- Resource transformation (manufacturing, energy, construction, etc.)
- Services (transport, trade, tourism, information technology, etc.)
