On 14 and 22 May, Join Our Webinars: Nature-based Solutions (NBS): From Theory to Practice – Reducing Flood Risks in Coastal Communities
Mark your calendar and join practitioners from across North America as they share insights and best practices on nature-based solutions to address flood risks in coastal communities!
All over the world, coastal flood risks are escalating due to land-use changes, ecosystem loss or transformation, population growth in coastal zones, sea-level rise, changes in the frequency and severity of storms and ageing flood-protection infrastructure. Tides and storm-driven flooding are increasingly damaging homes and infrastructure, and generally disrupting coastal communities and their economies.
Nature-based solutions can increase the resilience of coastal communities by reducing flood and erosion risk through the protection, restoration and sustainable management of natural coastal environments, and the construction of new features that mimic or work with ecological processes. Nature-based solutions also offer co-benefits not delivered by traditional infrastructure.
Hosted as part of the CEC trilateral project “Nature-based Solutions to Address Flooding in Coastal Cities”, these webinars are open to everyone interested in exploring the role of nature-based solutions and learning best practices for implementing these solutions to mitigate coastal flood risks. Practitioners from Canada, Mexico and the United States will share their experience applying nature-based solutions, with the goal of supporting their broader implementation to address flood risks in coastal communities across North America.
Dates: 14 and 22 May 2025
Time: 2:00–3:00 PM ET
Both webinars will be held in English and Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation provided in English, Spanish and French.
Stay tuned in the coming months for more events and activities related to this project! If you would like to know more about CEC initiatives, opportunities and efforts, you can sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media.
