NAPECA Grant Program: C$1.5 Million to Support a Resilient Community Recovery from COVID-19
Montreal, 23 November 2021—The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is calling for grant applications from organizations to support environmental initiatives that help North American communities implement solutions and strengthen their capacities to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and increase their resilience.
“The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the most vulnerable and underserved communities have created an urgency to direct our recovery efforts to the areas where these communities live, and to strengthen social and environmental justice efforts.” said María Luisa Albores González, Mexican Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources. “As we recover from the pandemic, our communities will lead the way on finding solutions for a sustainable recovery enhancing our environmental protection.”
The 2021-2023 NAPECA grant cycle will support communities hardest hit by the effects of the pandemic, particularly vulnerable populations and some Indigenous peoples, and allow them to become more resilient.
Information on the application process and the selection criteria are available in the call for proposals. The deadline for submitting proposals is 21 January 2022 and projects will begin in April 2022.
C$1.5 million in grants are available for non-profit organizations that wish to engage and partner with local and Indigenous communities, academics and non-governmental organizations in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, to promote shared responsibility and stewardship for the environment.
The CEC’s NAPECA grant program is supporting an equitable and sustainable recovery in North America by helping communities, in particular vulnerable communities, be more resilient to future environmental-related threats.
