Amelia Arreguin
Amelia Arreguín Prado is a dedicated advocate for gender and environmental justice, supporting grassroots women and girls to advocate for their rights in global and national environmental policy. As Coordinator of the CBD Women's Caucus, she works at the intersection of gender, biodiversity, and human rights, focusing on women’s land rights, conservation, gender-based violence, women environmental defenders, species and ecosystem protection, and community-led monitoring.
Her work increasingly engages with the intersection of finance, economics, and climate-biodiversity governance, including carbon and biodiversity markets, direct access to financial resources, and equitable nature-related finance mechanisms.
With extensive experience in research, policy, and advocacy, Amelia also serves as Regional Vice Chair of IUCN CEESP for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean and has contributed to various international initiatives. She is the founder of Eco Maxei AC and co-creator of the ECA (Entrenamiento en Ciudadanía Ambiental) project, implemented annually in collaboration with FES Mexico and other partners since her participation in the FES Progressive Leaders Program (PLP) in Mexico.
A Chevening Scholar, Amelia holds an master’s of science in Environment and International Development from the University of East Anglia and a bachelor’s degree in Political Communication from UNAM. Through an intersectional and intercultural approach, she continues to drive meaningful change in biodiversity governance, social justice, and equitable environmental finance.
