Industrial facilities reporting to Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTR) in North America, 2023
Map type: Pollution and Waste
This map shows the locations of about 23,000 industrial facilities in North America that reported on releases or transfers of pollutants in 2023.
A pollutant release and transfer register (PRTR) provides annual data on the pollutants released by facilities on site to the air, water and land, or for disposal or underground injection; and transferred off site for recycling, treatment or disposal. The CEC’s North American PRTR Initiative promotes public access to PRTR data to improve understanding of the sources and management of pollutants of common concern. The data used are reported by facilities to the three national PRTRs: Canada’s National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI), Mexico’s Registro de Emisiones y Transferencia de Contaminantes (RETC), and the United States’ Toxics Release Inventory (TRI). Efforts are focused on adding value to the data through their integration, analysis and dissemination.
