Steve DeRoy, an Anishinaabe/Saulteaux from the Ebb and Flow and Lake Manitoba First Nations in Treaty 2 territory, is the co-founder, director, and CEO of The Firelight Group and founder of the Indigenous Mapping Collective, based in Vancouver, BC. An award-winning Indigenous entrepreneur, he specializes in mapping, geographic information sciences, business development, and natural resources management. Since 1998, Steve has mentored Indigenous practitioners, conducted risk assessments, and led studies on Indigenous knowledge for energy projects. He has also worked with Google and Apple to ensure Indigenous lands are accurately represented on their maps.
