Jaziel Soto Torres

A native of the state of Baja California, Mexico, Jaziel Soto Torres is a proud member of the Cucapá Indigenous nation. Influenced since childhood by the teachings of his grandmother, Inocencia González Sainz, a respected traditional leader in the community, Jaziel developed an unbreakable commitment to the social wellbeing of his people and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage. Motivated by a keen interest in the sustainable development of his community, he is currently studying aquaculture engineering and pisciculture.

Jaziel’s contributions have not gone unrecognized. In 2021, he was awarded the State Youth Prize (“Strengthening Culture” category), and had previously merited the 2008 National Youth Prize (“Environmental Protection” category).

Jaziel Soto Torres was a participant in the trinational workshop held in Mexico in 2023 under the auspices of the CEC’s Communities for Environmental Justice Network project.
