#MapMonday

World Ocean Day

It’s #MapMonday! To celebrate World Ocean Day this week, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation is highlighting the North American Marine Protected Areas Network (NAMPAN) Story Map.

This interactive Story Map helps us better understand that networks of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) like NAMPAN are vital for the conservation of ecosystems, biodiversity, coastal and Indigenous community well-being, and cultural heritage.

Explore the interactive maps:

  • Blue carbon ecosystems & seagrasses
  • Salt marshes
  • Mangroves
  • Blue whale migration
  • Deep-sea corals & sponges
  • Turtle nesting beaches & more…

Along with Parks Canada, CONANP, US Marine Protection and UN Environment Programme, the Commission collaborates through NAMPAN to enhance and strengthen the conservation of biodiversity in critical marine habitats by connecting people and places across North America.

We invite you to check out this Story Map, available in English, French and Spanish.
