The photos in this exhibition occupy a realm between visual record—spontaneous observations of the environment—and travel memories, which can be understood here as a succession of discoveries. Making a symbolic allusion to the migration of the Monarch butterfly, the exhibition presents a visual translation of the artist’s journey from her native Mexico to an artist-in-residency in the Canadian Arctic in the summer of 2013, which was supported by the Québec Council for the Arts (CALQ) and the Avataq Institute. Also, some photos present elements of Inuit culture or of the culture of Mexico.
*The artist will be on hand to meet with the public on October 9, from 10 am to 12 pm and from 5 pm to 6 pm.
