Ce probl\u00e8me est d\u00fb \u00e0 la quantit\u00e9 excessive d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments nutritifs qui p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans le lac \u00e0 partir de zones urbaines, agricoles et naturelles. Ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments (en particulier le phosphore) aident les plantes \u00e0 pousser sur le sol, mais quand le phosphore atteint nos voies navigables, il contribue largement au d\u00e9clin de l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me du lac Winnipeg. Les districts de conservation travaillent fort pour instaurer des pratiques de gestion exemplaires dans les zones agricoles et urbaines, mais il faut en faire davantage. Le fait d\u2019emp\u00eacher le phosphore d\u2019origine naturelle de p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans nos voies navigables est une approche totalement nouvelle au Manitoba. Actuellement, apr\u00e8s qu\u2019on a fauch\u00e9 la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation d\u2019une voie navigable, il reste sur place des d\u00e9bris qui se d\u00e9composent. Cette d\u00e9composition lib\u00e8re le phosphore, lequel r\u00e9int\u00e8gre alors la voie navigable. L\u2019\u00e9tude la plus r\u00e9cente de l\u2019Institut international du d\u00e9veloppement durable montre qu\u2019une tonne de quenouilles peut s\u00e9questrer entre 2,2 et 4,4 livres (entre 1 et 2 kg) de phosphore, et g\u00e9n\u00e9rer entre 2 et 5 tonnes de quenouilles par mille. Si tout le monde proc\u00e9dait au fauchage de ces plantes, cela ferait une grosse diff\u00e9rence!<\/p>\n<h4>Objectifs<\/h4>\n<p>\u00c9liminer jusqu\u2019\u00e0 13&nbsp;200 livres (600 kg) de phosphore dans 900 km de voies navigables menant au lac Winnipeg. Notre projet consiste simplement \u00e0 retirer des voies navigables les d\u00e9bris v\u00e9g\u00e9taux fauch\u00e9s et \u00e0 trouver une autre utilisation pour ces d\u00e9chets qualifi\u00e9s de biomasse. Cette approche novatrice, et pourtant simple, vise \u00e0 stimuler le d\u00e9veloppement \u00e9conomique durable dans les r\u00e9gions rurales et urbaines, en r\u00e9coltant les d\u00e9chets de biomasse pour en faire un produit \u00e0 la fois utile et recherch\u00e9. On esp\u00e8re que cela permettra de cr\u00e9er un mod\u00e8le plus durable de gestion des sols et des voies navigables, et d\u2019\u00e9tablir une relation \u00e9ducative entre les propri\u00e9taires fonciers, l\u2019industrie, les chercheurs et les gestionnaires des voies navigables, en vue de la poursuite des pratiques d\u2019exploitation de la biomasse.<\/p>\n<h4>Principales activit\u00e9s<\/h4>\n<p>Les trois districts de conservation organiseront six ateliers hivernaux afin de pr\u00e9senter le projet \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle locale aux propri\u00e9taires fonciers, aux membres de l\u2019industrie et aux gestionnaires des voies navigables, et d\u2019obtenir le soutien des gens qui souhaitent proc\u00e9der \u00e0 la r\u00e9colte \u00e0 la fin de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 et en automne, et veulent utiliser les quenouilles r\u00e9colt\u00e9es comme liti\u00e8res du b\u00e9tail dans leur exploitation, pour chauffer leurs collectivit\u00e9s, comme compost, comme engrais vert ou \u00e0 toute autre fin innovatrice non encore d\u00e9couverte. Quand la biomasse (quenouilles et autre v\u00e9g\u00e9tation poussant dans les foss\u00e9s) sera pr\u00eate \u00e0 \u00eatre r\u00e9colt\u00e9e (p. ex., quand les foss\u00e9s devront \u00eatre fauch\u00e9s), les partenaires du projet travailleront ensemble pour coordonner l\u2019exploitation de la biomasse avec les gestionnaires des voies navigables, afin de compacter la biomasse et de l\u2019extraire des voies navigables. Les balles ainsi cr\u00e9\u00e9es seront utilis\u00e9es imm\u00e9diatement ou empil\u00e9es de fa\u00e7on appropri\u00e9e en vue d\u2019une utilisation future. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son programme de surveillance communautaire, la Lake Winnipeg Foundation testera le phosphore pr\u00e9sent dans les tributaires se trouvant dans la zone vis\u00e9e par le projet. L\u2019Institut international du d\u00e9veloppement durable facilitera le soutien technique, mais aussi la recherche-d\u00e9veloppement et l\u2019analyse des utilisations novatrices de la biomasse, tout en calculant la quantit\u00e9 de phosphore captur\u00e9.<\/p>\n<h4>R\u00e9sultats escompt\u00e9s<\/h4>\n<p>Ce projet pilote va montrer comment on \u00e9limine jusqu\u2019\u00e0 13&nbsp;200 livres (600 kg) de phosphore dans 900 km de voies navigables menant au lac Winnipeg, mais aussi cr\u00e9er un solide r\u00e9seau de propri\u00e9taires fonciers, de leaders de l\u2019industrie, de chercheurs et de gestionnaires de voies navigables aux pratiques durables, afin de superviser une gestion durable des voies navigables du Manitoba.
