Selon la Cornell University, les produits alimentaires sont transport\u00e9s en moyenne sur 2 400 kilom\u00e8tres avant d\u2019\u00eatre consomm\u00e9s. Cultiver des produits alimentaires \u00e0 la maison permet d\u2019\u00e9liminer la consommation de carburant et les \u00e9missions de CO2 associ\u00e9es au transport des aliments.<\/p>\n<h4>OBJECTIFS<\/h4>\n<p>L\u2019organisme Geen Light New Orleans am\u00e9nagera gratuitement des jardins potagers d\u2019arri\u00e8re-cour pour accro\u00eetre l\u2019acc\u00e8s aux aliments frais, r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de CO2 et rapprocher les familles de leur source d\u2019aliments. Des donn\u00e9es seront recueillies aupr\u00e8s des participants en vue d\u2019\u00e9laborer une m\u00e9thode de calcul de la r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions de carbone attribuable aux potagers r\u00e9sidentiels \u00e0 La Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans.<\/p>\n<h4>PRINCIPALES ACTIVIT\u00c9S<\/h4>\n<p>Les b\u00e9n\u00e9voles du programme Green Light am\u00e9nageront gratuitement des jardins potagers chez les r\u00e9sidants qui veulent faire pousser leurs propres l\u00e9gumes. Les apprentis jardiniers participeront \u00e0 des ateliers sur les rudiments du jardinage et sur les m\u00e9thodes de jardinage biologique. Des sondages seront men\u00e9s deux fois par ann\u00e9e pour suivre l\u2019incidence du programme de potagers. Les donn\u00e9es seront recueillies et analys\u00e9es par des \u00e9tudiants de la Tulane University en vue d\u2019\u00e9laborer une m\u00e9thode pour calculer l\u2019impact des potagers urbains sur les \u00e9missions de carbone.<\/p>\n<h4>R\u00c9SULTATS<\/h4>\n<p>Le programme Green Light contribuera \u00e0 r\u00e9duire l\u2019empreinte carbone de la r\u00e9gion de La Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9nagement gratuit de potagers d\u2019arri\u00e8re-cour pour les r\u00e9sidants. Ce programme entra\u00eenera une augmentation de la quantit\u00e9 d\u2019aliments frais cultiv\u00e9s et consomm\u00e9s localement en permettant aux r\u00e9sidants de La Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans de faire pousser leurs propres aliments et les aidant \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer leur r\u00e9colte.
