Welcome to the CEC's NAPRTR data search tool
This tool allows you to find the answers to your questions about industrial pollutant releases and transfers, drawing on the CEC's integrated North American PRTR database, which brings together data from the Canadian, US, and Mexican PRTR programs.
The following are some examples of what you can do:
- Create a report that shows total releases and transfers by state/province/territory
- Learn what were the top 10 pollutants transferred to recycling in North America in 2005
- Generate reports that look at facilities, industry sectors, or geographic regions
- Review data reported by facilities, going back to 1998
To start your search, you can choose one of three options:
- The Wizard - Follow the step-by-step instructions for searching the integrated database
- The Full Page - Convenient when you've used the search tool before
- The Facility Search box - If you know which facility you wish to query, just type in all or part of its name
If you are looking for a particular facility, you
may use the quick search box at the top of the page.
Before proceeding, please be sure to read
Using and Understanding the Data.
[Step 1 of 5]
Report Type:
Facility Report to know the names and locations of facilities that reported releases and transfers.
Results and how to use them:
- A list of all facilities with the amount* reported by each facility
- Sort the data in increasing or decreasing order, by clicking on the column headings
- Click on a facility name to get a breakdown of all pollutants (and amounts) reported
- View the facility location on the map inset
- Download the data from this page
Industry Sector Report to know what was released and transferred by a particular industry or industries.
Results and how to use them:
- The industry (ies) reporting and the amount* reported by industry
- Click on the industry name to get a breakdown of amounts reported by state/province/territory, pollutant, and facility
- View the facility location on the map inset
- Download the data from this page
Country Report to know what was released and transferred in one or more of the three countries.
Results and how to use them:
- The country (ies) reporting and the amount* reported by country
- Click on the country name to get a breakdown of amounts reported by state/province/territory, pollutant, and industry
- View the facility location on the map inset
- Download the data from this page
State/Province Report if you want what was released and transferred by state, province or territory in one or more of the three countries.
Results and how to use them:
- The state/province/territory(s) reporting and the amount* reported by region
- Click on the state/province/territory name to get a breakdown of amounts reported by pollutant, industry, and facility
- View the facility location on the map inset
- Download the data from this page
Pollutant Report to know which pollutants were released and transferred.
Results and how to use them:
- The pollutant(s) reported and the amount* reported by pollutant
- Click on a pollutant name to get a breakdown of amounts reported by state/province/territory, industry, and facility
- View the facility location on the map inset
- Download the data from this page
* The default is "All Releases and Transfers." For details about specific releases or transfers, check the pertinent boxes. For air and water releases, check the "TEP values" box to see the risk scores available for certain pollutants.
[Step 4 of 5]
Pollutants:
Specify the PRTR Program Filter(s)
This tool filters your search by the pollutants reported to the selected PRTR program (for the specified year/years). By selecting "all", your search will include data for any of the pollutants reported to any of the three PRTR programs. Selecting "NPRI" will filter your search by those pollutants reported to NPRI (thus, any pollutant reportable only to TRI or RETC, but not NPRI, will be excluded from your results).
Specify one or more pollutant type
You can search the database for specific categories of substances, such as known or suspected carcinogens, or developmental or reproductive toxicants. These substances are listed by California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (the "California Proposition 65" list) or by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
On the results pages, known or suspected carcinogens are represented by a "C" and developmental or reproductive toxicants are represented by a "P". You can also search the database for releases and transfers of metals and their compounds, represented by an "M".
For air and water releases of known or suspected carcinogens and developmental and reproductive toxicants, you can click on the Toxic Equivalency Potential (TEP) button to rank pollutants according to the TEP chemical ranking system, developed by scientists at the University of California at Berkeley.
