North American Action on Dioxins, Furans and Hexachlorobenzene

Mercury Control in North America

Significant reductions in mercury use and emissions are anticipated in North America under an agreement reached by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The North American Regional Action Plan (NARAP) on mercury, adopted by the three countries through the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) of North America, provides a strategic framework, specific actions, targets and timeframes to reduce the uses and releases of mercury in North America.

Mechanisms for Tracking Mercury Imports and Exports for Use and Disposal in Canada, Mexico and the United States

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation's (CEC) North American Regional Action Plan (NARAP) on Mercury is intended to assist the governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States in reducing the exposure of North American ecosystems, fish and wildlife and humans to mercury, through the prevention and reduction of anthropogenic releases of mercury to the North American environment.

Mechanisms for Tracking United States Mercury Imports and Exports

This project deals with two aspects of Phase II of the North American Regional Action Plan on Mercury as they relate to the U.S. – a review of national regulations/policies regarding: 1) import/export of mercury for processing, and 2) recycling or final disposal of mercury waste.

Assessment of Mechanisms in Mexico for Tracking Imports and Exports of Mercury for Use and Disposal

In 1997 the governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States agreed to a North American Regional Action Plan (NARAP) on mercury, intended to support the domestic and trilateral efforts to reduce the exposure of North American ecosystems, flora and fauna, and especially humans, to mercury. The ultimate goal of this NARAP is to prevent and reduce anthropogenic releases and transfers of mercury to the North American environment, through the development and execution of appropriate national and international initiatives.
