Improving Indoor Air Quality to Reduce Exposure to Airborne Contaminants in Alaskan Native Populations and Other Indigenous Communities in North America

This work is a continuation of a project under the 2011-2012 Operational Plan.

Studies show that a combination of substandard housing, overcrowding, poor indoor air quality, and other environmental factors lead to poor health outcomes for indigenous populations. These conditions will continue to be exacerbated by climate change. Through the 2011-12 Operational Plan, CEC funds have supported the development of a model and methods for improving air quality in the homes of high-risk children in indigenous communities. This project continues in 2013-14 to support this study to generate a robust dataset that can support recommendations for healthy homes projects in North America.
