| Montreal, 6/05/2009 – The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is pleased to invite you to the Sixteenth Regular Session of its Council and related events, to be held on 22–23 June 2009, in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Public events begin 22 June with a workshop on Climate Policy Coherence in North America, organized by the CEC’s Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC). With expert and public participation, the workshop will examine the prospect for Canada, Mexico and the United States to enhance national efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to our changing climate through cooperation at a North American level.
The JPAC workshop will focus on joint solutions and cooperative measures, including policy and technical responses. Workshop results will be used by JPAC to prepare recommendations for the CEC Council.
The 2009 annual meeting of the CEC Council, comprising the cabinet-level environment ministers of the three NAFTA countries—Jim Prentice of Canada, Juan Elvira Quesada of Mexico, and Lisa P. Jackson of the United States—will examine environmental issues of common concern and set direction for the Commission’s work program.
The Council Session will be held on 23 June. Much of the agenda will be open to the public to attend as observers. Council members will participate in a forum where the public may make oral presentations on matters related to the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation or CEC endeavors.
JPAC will hold its ordinary session that same day, to consider possible advice to the CEC Council with respect to the discussions held during the prior day’s workshop. The public is welcome to observe.
The preliminary agenda, with the events open to the public, is available on the CEC website. Additional information on the above events will be posted online.

Please note that attendance at these meetings is open to the general public at no charge. Nonprofit organizations and individuals wishing to request financial support to cover travel and lodging expenses may do so using the online advance registration form and must provide a written statement of interest demonstrating your expertise with the topics to be addressed. The deadline for advance registration, financial support applications, and requests to make oral presentations to the Council is 22 May 2009.
