The CEC's 15 public advisory committee members will host a discussion with the public and invited experts on environmental priorities that the CEC should consider during the next five years. The event will be webcast live on 1 December and will include a virtual discussion forum.

Photographer: Eric Vance / EPAThe 16th Regular Session of the CEC Council, which convened on 24 June 2009, concluded yesterday, after consultation meetings with JPAC and the public, with the signing of a ministerial statement by the environmental ministers of the three countries. In it, the ministers took note of the progress made since the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC) came into effect 15 years ago, reaffirmed the commitment to tackle trilateral environmental priorities, and agreed on a new policy direction for the CEC focused on the shared environmental challenges of today.

Trinational report presents most complete picture of North American industrial pollution
Taking Stock report shows that 90 percent of the 5.5 billion kilograms of toxic pollutant releases and transfers reported in North America in 2005 can be traced to about 30 substances from 15 industrial sectors across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
This year, an expanded Taking Stock Online website allows users to explore pollutant data for North America with customized reports by pollutant, facility, sector or geographic region and allows interactive mapping of search results.
