Located on avenida Insurgentes Sur—one of the busiest and noisiest streets in Mexico City—Corporativo Insurgentes 533 is composed of two sections: eight floors for the Hotel Fiesta Inn and seven floors for offices. As such, it represents a singular and innovative concept for the business community in Mexico City. Based on a comprehensive approach in terms of function, comfort and technology, this building resolves the issues of natural lighting, thermal control and energy saving, through the study and analysis of 1) its orientation, 2) the behavior of its building facade materials, and 3) its building management systems. |

| ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS The building’s facades use a combination of laminated glass and tempered crystal with a special three-tone design that enables clear views outside while producing shadow patterns inside. The overall concept embodied in the drawing represents continuity with a succession of points, like an endless tower, reaching towards the sky. With different design criteria for each facade, the placing of horizontal parasols and the use of “intelligent” glass, the heat entering into the building is reduced, as is, moreover, the excessive noise characteristic of this area of the city. A large central atrium structures life within the building, even as it functions as an instrument for moderating temperatures. Corporativo Insurgentes 553 constitutes one of the best examples of energy saving in Mexico achieved via a building’s formal structural design.
