Digital Media and Communications Junior Advisor

(Three-month contract with possibility of extension)

Reporting to the CEC Content Outreach and Publications Manager, or their representative, and working closely with the team’s members and its internal clients, the Digital Media and Communications Junior Advisor supports the creation of CEC digital content (website, social media channels, video and graphics) and assists with coordinating communications unit activities related to CEC’s online and social media presence.

Objectives of the position

  1. Support the showcasing of quality CEC digital content to support the brand, profile and reputation of the CEC.
  2. Support CEC engagement by drafting digital content directed at stakeholders, influencers and the wider public.
  3. Support the development of innovative digital content to showcase progress and outcomes in CEC work.

Responsibilities

  • Create, coordinate and publish content, working seamlessly with CEC staff from other units to plan, prepare and edit content;
  • Compile information from team members and prepare the weekly communications schedule;
  • Assist in the planning, creating and dissemination of multimedia web content, including creating website banners and infographics;
  • Work with CEC communications team to plan, create and enhance web presence, and to monitor website for outdated content;
  • Work with the managing editors to ensure common content across English, French and Spanish digital content;
  • Propose interesting ways to present new and current information of interest to the CEC’s target audience categories;
  • Adapt content as needed according to best practices in web technology and social media communications;
  • Assist in sourcing images and artwork;
  • Work closely with members of the Content Outreach and Publications team, the Web and information services team and design contractors;
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing web traffic and usability statistics and suggest areas of improvement;
  • Any other communications-related tasks associated with the activities of the CEC.

Skills

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in communications and multimedia and a broad understanding of environmental issues. Experience at an international organization very desirable;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written (spelling, punctuation, grammar and style) and oral, in English and another of the CEC’s three official languages (English, French and Spanish);
  • Proficiency in French and Spanish is an asset;
  • Ability to produce timely, logical, and concise work products;
  • Ability to produce products requiring little or no editing;
  • Be adaptable and flexible to perform a range of tasks and work with internal clients within CEC;
  • Undergraduate degree in English, journalism, mass communication, or arts and sciences;
  • Ability to work on several tasks and prioritize work;
  • Background in journalism or producing marketing and public relations content;
  • Skills in web design, desktop publishing and photo editing an asset;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, working in a team and with outside consultants, contractors and stakeholders;
  • Computer literate – facility for using a web content management system;
  • Familiarity with HTML and page design programs such as Dreamweaver and Cyberstudio or other back-end technologies an asset;
  • Interest in environmental issues and experience with an NGO, international agency, government department or similar organization devoted to the betterment of society is an asset.
