CEC receives submission on Bicentennial Bridge in Tabasco, Mexico

Montreal, 23 December 2010—On 20 December 2010, Alberto Malagamba Moguel (the "Submitter") filed a submission with the Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), asserting that Mexico is failing to effectively enforce its environmental laws with respect to the authorization and construction of the Bicentennial Bridge (Puente Bicentenario) project in the municipality of Centro, Tabasco (the "Project").


CEC decides not to recommend the development of a factual record on Transgenic Maize in Chihuahua submission

Montreal, 22 December 2010—The Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CCA) issued a determination on 20 December 2010, in which it concludes that submission SEM-09-001 (Transgenic Maize in Chihuahua) does not warrant the development of a factual record.


North American Environmental Commission Promoting Green Jobs with Renewable Energy Training Courses Web Directory

Montreal, 16 December 2010—The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) is helping to advance training for green jobs in North America with the first trinational web-based directory, listing over 100 renewable energy training courses.


CEC requests response from Mexico to submission Los Remedios National Park II

Montreal, 11 November 2010 - Today, the Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) issued a determination requesting a response from Mexico to submission SEM-09-003 (Los Remedios National Park II), filed with the Secretariat on 16 July 2009, by Asociación Fuerza Unida Emiliano Zapata en Pro de las Areas Verdes, A.C. (the "Submitter").

Montreal, 13 July 2010-Taking Stock Online, released today by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, provides the latest integrated North American data and most comprehensive picture of industrial pollution across North America, documenting reported releases and transfers of 5.7 billion kilograms of toxic pollutants in 2006 from industrial facilities in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Montreal, 17 May 2010 - Following its most recent public meeting on "North America's Energy Market: Aligning Policies and Managing Carbon," held in March in Vancouver, Canada, the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) has issued recommendations for promoting low-carbon economies throughout the region.

CEC Secretariat receives a submission on alleged harm to fish from sewage discharges
Montreal, 7 May 2010 - Today, Fraser Riverkeeper Society, Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, Ottawa Riverkeeper, Fundy Baykeeper, Grand Riverkeeper, Georgian Baykeeper, Petitcodiac Riverkeeper, David Suzuki Foundation, T Buck Suzuki Environmental Foundation, Georgia Strait Alliance; and Waterkeeper Alliance (the Submitters) filed with the Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation ("CEC") a submission asserting that Canada is failing to effectively enforce the pollution prevention provision of the federal Fisheries Act to address contaminants being discharged from the Iona Island (British Columbia) Wastewater Treatment Plant, which have a deleterious affect on fish and fish habitat.

Evan Lloyd named executive director of North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation
Montreal, 7 May 2010 - The Council of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) today announced the appointment of Mr. Evan Lloyd as the fifth executive director of the CEC Secretariat.

Submission to CEC asserts Canada is failing to enforce the Fisheries Act with respect to oil sands tailings ponds
Montreal, 14 April 2010-The Secretariat of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) yesterday received a submission asserting that Canada is failing to effectively enforce a pollution prevention provision of the Canadian federal Fisheries Act (the "Fisheries Act") to address alleged leaking of deleterious substances from oil sands tailings ponds operations in the province of Alberta, Canada.  

North American Environmental Atlas launches comprehensive land cover map
Montreal, 23 March 2010 - A new map in the North American Environmental Atlas depicts North America's environment as a mosaic of forest, prairies, deserts and cities. Land Cover 2005 provides a harmonized view of North America's surface and offers a foundation for understanding the physical cover on a continental scale and the environmental issues that relate to it.
