COMMISSION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL COOPERATION
THREE COUNTRIES WORKING TOGETHER TO PROTECT OUR SHARED ENVIRONMENT
The CEC Secretariat provides technical, administrative and operational support to the Council and other support, including to working groups as the Council may direct.
The Secretariat submits for Council approval the annual program and budget of the Commission, including proposed cooperative activities.
In addition to facilitating environmental cooperation through its various projects the CEC Secretariat periodically prepares independent reports on important environmental matters and provides information on the state of the environment throughout North America.
The Secretariat also has special responsibilities to consider submissions from any non-governmental organization or citizen that a Party is failing to effectively enforce its environmental law.
Headed by an Executive Director appointed by Council, the Secretariat's activities are accomplished by professional staff from each of Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The Secretariat is located in Montreal, Canada, with a liaison office in Mexico City, Mexico.
